Eastman Chemical Company Receives Energy Efficiency Awards for 21st
Consecutive Year

KINGSPORT, Tenn., May 7, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Eastman Chemical Company was one of 16 American
Chemistry Council (ACC) members honored at the annual ACC Responsible Care® Conference and Expo
for implementing energy-efficiency improvements in 2013.

Eastman received 5 of the 50 awards presented for outstanding projects, marking the 21st consecutive
year the company has earned energy efficiency awards from ACC.

“Eastman is honored to be recognized again by ACC for the commitment of Eastman’s men and women
to improve efficiencies and operate sustainably,” said Joe Davis, vice president, health, safety,
environmental and security (HSES) and assistant general counsel. “As a Responsible Care company,
Eastman takes environmental stewardship seriously. We continue to focus our efforts on reducing
energy costs and emissions through innovative technology and process improvements.”

Eastman’s Tennessee Operations in Kingsport, Tennessee received awards for the following projects:
Eliminate Natural Gas Compressors – By tying in to a nearby header with higher pressure natural gas,
two compressors were able to be shut down. This equates to an annualized energy savings of 24,395
MMBtus and a reduction of 1,465 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Building Energy Reduction – Through use of an ENERGY STAR® tool called Portfolio Manager, the
ENERGY STAR competition Battle of the Buildings, improvement projects, and a focus on employee
energy awareness, three office buildings had an average Energy Use Intensity reduction of 28% and
became ENERGY STAR Certified Buildings. These combined efforts resulted in annual energy savings of
2,125 MMBtus and reduced greenhouse gas emissions of 128 tons.

Energy Optimization of Flash Column – Installation of an orifice to direct product stream toward a feed
stream-cooled condenser reduced the amount of steam needed to heat the process. As a result, annual
savings total 23,547 MMBtus and a reduction of 1,377 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Minimization of Acid Reprocessing – An existing column was configured to run in an alternate service
during an outage of another column which prevented the product stream from having to be
reprocessed. This achieved annual energy savings of 64,500 MMBtus and greenhouse gas emissions
reductions of 3,775 tons.

Change in Trap Type for Base Heaters – Reliability issues with existing traps required blow-down valves
to be left open resulting in lost steam and condensate. Changing to a different trap design eliminated
the need for opening blow-down valves ahead of the traps. The steam and condensate saved resulted in
an annual saving of 4,300 MMBtus and a greenhouse gas emissions reduction of 446 tons.

“Eastman is constantly looking for ways to drive energy improvements. These five winning projects
exhibit innovative examples of trials with new types of equipment, creative process redesign,
operational changes, and employee commitment,” said Sharon Nolen, Manager, Corporate Energy
Program.

In April, Eastman was recognized with the 2014 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence
award for continued leadership in superior energy management by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). Eastman is the first chemical company to achieve this honor. Eastman was previously
named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
